Locals wrap up girls’ golf season at MHSAA State Finals | USA Today High School Sports

The fall season concluded for girls’ golfers on Saturday, with four state champions crowned throughout the state – including at Battle Creek’s Bedford Valley Golf Course.

Birmingham Seaholm left the Cereal City with the Division 2 state title thanks to a two-day total of 664 (335, 329). The only local individual to compete at the event was Gull Lake’s Jenna VandenBerg, who carded a 171 total (87, 84).

In the Division 3 Finals at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers West, Spring Lake won a state title with a two-day score of 661 — 70 strokes better than runner-up Goodrich.

Coldwater placed 15th with a team score of 882 (451, 441). Leading the Cardinals were Haley Linton (105, 111 = 216), Jayla Goodwin (113, 104 = 217), Claire Sheppard (115, 112 = 227), Gabriel Boston (121, 114 = 235) and Madison Donbrock (118, 118 = 236).Competing individually were Harper Creek’s Jacqueline Greene (106, 96 = 202) and Sydney Leatherman (98, 110 = 208).

At the Division 1 Finals at The Meadows in Muskegon, Traverse City West and Rochester each carded a 685, but T.C. West won the state championship on a fifth-score tiebreaker.

At the Division 4 Finals at MSU’s Forest Akers East, Kalamazoo Hackett won the state title with a two-day total of 684 (344, 340).
