Asheville High senior Pete Leota has been named to the watch list for the 2016 Polynesian All-American Bowl.
The game will take place Jan. 8 in Oceanside, Calif.
Leota is a 6-foot-5, 306-pound lineman who said earlier this week that he remains firmly committed to the University of South Carolina despite a recent coaching change. Interim coach Shawn Elliott was instrumental in recruiting Leota to Columbia, S.C., and was named as Steve Spurrier’s replacement on Tuesday.
Leota is the only Western North Carolina player who has been selected to the Dec. 19 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas in Spartanburg, S.C.
