“Dreidel Song” used as taunt | USA Today High School Sports

Officials at South Windsor (Conn.) have met with students caught on video chanting the “Dreidel Song” in a taunting manner at students of Hall (West Hartford, Conn.) during a boys’ soccer game Wednesday.

South Windsor superintendent Kate Carter commented on the incident in a statement released Friday:

“The high school administration conducted a thorough investigation and has met with the students involved. We take this situation seriously and are committed to using this unfortunate incident as a catalyst for meaningful conversations and teachable moments.

South Windsor Schools will be partnering with the Anti-Defamation League, an organization through which many Connecticut school districts have sought assistance in fostering a meaningful dialogue within their school communities.”

This is the second time in the past two years students at Hall — a school in the city of West Hartford with a significant Jewish population — have been targets of such taunts. Last year there were inappropriate chants going back and forth between students from Hall and Conard (West Hartford, Conn.) at a soccer game.
