Nine aces from Kylee Van Egdom and 12 kills from Ellie Voss lifted Sioux Falls Christian to a 25-8, 25–16, 25-15 win over Dell Rapids. The Chargers (18-4) also picked up 26 assists from Amy Hurley and six digs from Van Egdom. Brooke Klein had two aces for Dell Rapids (6-16). Chloe Solberg added two aces and five assists, Emma Paul had two kills and Trinity Gordan had eight digs. Both teams are at the Dak 12 tournament beginning Saturday.
Irene-Wakonda def. Centerville 25-6, 25-18, 25-15 in Wakonda — Irene-Wakonda held serve at home with relative ease, coasting past Centerville in straight sets. The visiting Tornadoes (6-16) were led by Allyson Johnson (two aces), Emily Snyder (one kill, two aces) and Shannon O’Malley (four digs, two aces). Rebecca Hybertson led Centerville with nine digs. The Eagles (8-11) were led by Caitlin Hinseth (13 kills, 10 digs), Ashley Emmick (13 digs) and Hannah Anderson (17 assists, two aces). Centerville returns to action Monday against Menno, while Irene-Wakonda heads to Viborg Hurley on Tuesday.
Avon def. Freeman 25-21, 25-20, 25-9 in Freeman — After capturing the first two sets by a combined nine points, Avon dominated the final set and handed Freeman just its third loss of the season. The Flyers (17-3) picked up 10 kills, six digs and a pair of aces from Ashley Glanzer, seven digs from Josie Fuhrman, three aces from Karli Maoke and six digs, two aces from Lacey Wolf. Journey Mehlhoaf added seven kills and a pair of blocks. Avon (6-11) got multiple aces from Cheylee Nagel (4), Karisa Markel (3), Kacie Mudder (3), Lexi Olson (3) and Hanna Powers (2), as well as a team-high 17 digs from Markel. Powers added 14 assists and eight digs. Freeman welcomes Hanson on Monday, while Ethan takes on Avon.
Tea def. Garretson 25-21, 25-8, 25-19 in Tea — With seven kills, seven digs and eight aces from Amanda Carlson, Tea took down Garretson. The Titans (9-8) were led in kills by Ally Kacmarynski, who had 12 to go with four digs. Sidney Clayberg finished with 26 assists and seven aces. The Blue Dragons (1-18) had seven assists, 11 digs from Morgan Gloe and six kills, two digs and an ace from Peyton Heitkamp. Tea heads to Hartford on Saturday; Garretson is off until Oct. 23 when it will take on Howard.
Parker def. Parkston 25-17, 25-11, 25-10 in Parker — Fueled by Rylie Christensen, who notched a match-high 15 kills, two blocks and three digs, Parker took down Parkston in three sets. The Pheasants (21-5) got blocks from Gabby Herlyn (5), Contessa Harold (3), Mackenzie Dean (1) and Hannah Herlyn (1). Dean also had a kill, 31 assists and 16 digs. Alexis Olson had an assist, 24 digs and two aces. Parkston (7-13) was led by Halli Heisinger who had five kills, three blocks, 18 digs and three aces. Next up for Parker is a visit to Flandreau on Tuesday. Parkston travels to Bon Homme.
McCook Central/Montrose def. Marion 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 in Marion — The Fighting Cougars escaped Marion with a three-set win. For the visitors (11-10), Harley Miles had 16 digs and an ace, Allie Schallenkamp had seven kills, 12 digs and a pair of aces and Morgan Erickson had four kills, four digs and two aces. Harley Miles also added a team-high 16 digs. Marion (4-11) was led by Sarah Ptak (10 digs, six aces) and Michele Schoenwald (12 kills, 27 digs, two aces). MCM visits Tea on Tuesday; Marion will be in Canistota that night.
