BRENTWOOD — Ravenwood used a big second-half performance to bury visiting Overton and capture its fourth straight victory Friday.
The Raptors (7-1, 5-0 3-6A), who built a seven-point halftime advantage, reeled off 24 unanswered second-half points en route to a 38-7 win over Bobcats, widening their lead in the region standings.
“We want home field advantage (in the playoffs),” Ravenwood safety Andrew Lutgens said. “Having to travel to Memphis last year, we know that it would be a huge advantage to have the playoffs here, and that was a big goal tonight.”
After forcing an early Ravenwood interception that set up Overton with great field position, wide receiver Theo Jackson jetted around left end for a 9-yard touchdown run, spotting the Bobcats a 7-0 lead with 7:15 left.
Not only was Overton’s lead short-lived, but Jackson’s touchdown also turned out to be the squad’s only score of the night.
Minutes later, Ravenwood running back Connor Jeffries ripped off a 50-yard touchdown run, capping a five-play, 71-yard scoring drive.
Running back Chris Rowland set up the Raptors’ second score, reeling off a 44-yard punt return down to the Overton 2-yard-line, and on the next play, quarterback Andrew Rappe barreled into the end zone to spot his team a 14-7 halftime edge.
“We got a score before the half, and that was big for momentum,” said Lutgens, who hauled in a second-half interception. “In the second half, the defense wanted to come out and stick them right out of the gate and not let up.”
The Raptors scored on their first three second-half possessions, including a pair of 36-yard touchdown passes from Rappe to Rowland and wide receiver Nathan Freeman, along with a 26-yard field goal from Crews Holt.
Rappe, who split time under center with teammate McCain Marrow, finished 4-of-6 for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Marrow ran four times for 47 yards, which included a 45-yard, fourth-quarter touchdown run.
