Franklin hall of fame induction tonight | USA Today High School Sports

Franklin will induct three individuals into its athletic hall of fame prior to Friday night’s home football game against North Henderson.

The ceremony should begin at 7 p.m.

Mary Lou Cabe (Zeller)

Was a forward during the six-player era in high school basketball
Was an All-Smoky Mountain Conference selection as a junior in the 1959-1960 season, helping the team finish third in SMC tournament
Helped the Panthers win the regular season title for the 1960-1961 season in the eastern division of the Smoky Mountain Conference
Named to the All-Conference team as a senior and won the conference’s Most Valuable Player award. It was the first time a Franklin athlete had ever received the honor.
Passed away on September 16, 2014 in Eustis, Florida
Accepting for her are her sister Joyce Raby and nephew Todd Raby.

Walter Wright

Co-Captain of the state championship-winning football team in 1976
All-Conference linebacker in 1975 and 1976
All-Conference offensive end in 1975
All-Western North Carolina offensive lineman in 1976
All-State offensive line in 1976
Won the Head Hunter trophy for making the most tackles on the team for three straight years
Scored a 96% blocking grade as a Senior
Signed a grant-in-aid to play football at Western Carolina University
