The finest things in life are aged until they’re best suited for consumption.
Let’s assume that’s what happened here, as NJ Advance Media just uncovered one of the finest football catches you’ll ever see five months after the fact. It’s worth the wait.
Maybe it’s because Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) wide receiver John Bowen was ruled ineligible last season when the NJSIAA was convinced he transferred from Caldwell (N.J.) for athletic purposes. Or maybe it’s because he posted it to a Twitter account with fewer than 1,000 followers. Whatever the reason, Bowen’s one-handed catch of junior quarterback Tommy DeVito’s practice pass while doing a backflip was underappreciated.
To the best of our knowledge, Bowen is yet to make a one-handed backflip catch during Don Bosco’s 3-2 start to 2015, but he’s made some impressive grabs as a senior this season.
It’s safe to say Bowen’s Twitter following — and recruiting prospects — are bound to increase now that his superhero tendencies have been revealed. Better late than never.
