Bears can clinch Class 4-A, District Four title with win

* Spencer County continued to roll through its schedule, building a 34-7 halftime lead and hanging on to beat Franklin County 47-42 last week. Junior Branden Leff (233 yards, three touchdowns) and senior Logan Holbrook (217 yards, three TDs) had big games on the ground as the Bears rolled up 479 rushing yards. They’re averaging a state-best 435.5 rushing yards per game.
* Shelby County is enjoying its best start since going 7-0 to open the 2005 season. The Rockets rolled past North Oldham 24-7 last week as seniors Malik Manica (26 carries, 184 yards) and Michael Perry (nine carries, 91 yards) and junior Tyler Drane (eight carries, 57 yards, two touchdowns) had big games on the ground in their triple-option attack.
Quotable: “As a coach you line up against Spencer County and think you’re OK,” Shelby County coach Todd Shipley said. “But their kids just make stuff happen. They’re so good at what they do. Coach (Mike) Marksbury has done a fantastic job with them.”
