The Section V high school football players of the week are selected by a committee, based on nominations from coaches. Ontario Honda sponsors these awards and the Player of the Year awards presented during the sectional finals.
The players of the week:
Class AA: Jake Zembiec (Aquinas) – Senior quarterback threw four touchdown passes, as he completed 15 of 19 attempts for 313 yards in a half during a 48-7 win over McQuaid.
Class A: Chris DiCesare (Irondequoit) – Junior running back helped Irondequoit stun Greece Athena, 35-14 with 207 yards on 23 carries, two for touchdowns.
Class B: Brandon Hawkins (Palmyra-Macedon) – A wingback in Pal-Mac’s offense, the 160-pound junior had two rushing and one receiving touchdown, plus a school-record 284 rushing yards versus Newark.
Class C: Cameron Cleveland (East Rochester/Gananda) – East Rochester junior ran for 292 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns, as ER/Gananda defeated Waterloo, 49-12.
Class D: Sean Sheets (Red Jacket) – Senior running back scored five touchdowns and finished with 264 rushing yards on 11 carries during Red Jacket’s win over Mynderse.
Class AA: Cipher Campbell-Bollar (East High) – Made 14 tackles, four for losses, and forced a fumble during East’s key 7-0 win over Wilson. Campbell-Bollar is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound junior.
Class A: Jason Williams (Greece Olympia) – Junior linebacker listed at 160 pounds made eight solo tackles and assisted on 10 against Brighton. Williams made four tackles for a loss.
Class B: Justin Patterson (Newark) – Senior linebacker had 13 tackles, three solo, and assisted on 10 as he broke the school record for most tackles in a career. He has 270. Newark defeated Palmyra-Macedon.
Class C: Adam Walter (Elba/Byron-Bergen) – Credited with 20 tackles, including eight solo and two for a loss, as the junior lineman helped Elba/Byron-Bergen defeat Finney/Northstar 46-20.
Class D: Derrick Busch (Alexander) – Junior linebacker intercepted three passes, including one he returned 65 yards for a touchdown, and recovered a fumble during a 40-7 win over Pembroke.
