Among the visually impaired students (1,972), 1,377 were boys and 595 girls
Minister for Special Education Asif Saeed Manhais said on Tuesday that 28,850 special students – 18,546 boys and 10,304 girls – had been enrolled in institutions set up by the Special Education Department.
Sharing the statistical breakdown, Manhais said, 18,645 of the students had impaired hearing. He said 10,410 of them were boys and 6,344 girls.
Among the visually impaired students (1,972), 1,377 were boys and 595 girls. He said 1,507 physically-disabled boys and 600 girls had been enrolled.
Among the mentally challenged students enrolled at the institutes, 3,341 were boys and 1,280 girls; 2,997 students with learning disability (1,813 boys and 1,184 girls) have been enrolled. Manhais said 116 enrolled boys and 283 girls were placed in other categories.
The minister said that the students would be given quality education and training to enable them to assimilate in society.
