These are the kind of lucky bounces that just don’t happen to hard-working defensive lineman. So, when they do, it makes for a very special scene.
Cue Friday night’s game between Eisenhower and Greenfield in Wisconsin. With Greenfield running a play deep in Eisenhower territory, the exchange between the quarterback and running back was fumbled. In fact, not only was it fumbled, it was fumbled directly on to the foot of Eisenhower defensive tackle Michael Keller. The resulting boot job sent the ball bounding down the field with only Keller seeming to notice exactly where the ball was headed. By the time he scooped it up, Keller had a couple teammates rallying behind him and pushing ahead to get in prime blocking position.
From there, everything came together to earn Keller a rather unlikely and unforeseen trip to the end zone, a huge scoreboard and momentum swing in Eisenhower’s 30-20 victory.
And all by a resourceful and lucky defensive tackle. Who would have dreamed it.
