Brevard high school golfers returned to area courses on Tuesday in bigger numbers than on Monday but with the same goal in mind: qualifying for next week’s regionals.
At Walkabout in Mims, the Rockledge boys won the District 11-2A tournament, shooting 346 to Merritt Island’s 356. Raiders Bryan Lanza and Zach Mundine both turned in a 78.
Lanza birdied holes 1, 2 and 6, just missing an eagle.
“I was feeling prepared,” he said. “The last four days, I’ve played here, so I was feeling prepared and excited to do good.”
Mundine birdied 4, 6 and 17.
The Mustangs and Titusville also earned regional spots. Individually, Astronaut’s Brendon Maher (87), Hunter Rader (91) and Lee Redick (93) advanced.
The Astronaut girls, with a 462, won the 11-2A event at The Savannahs on Merritt Island. Abby Houchin was the medalist and qualified individually along with Anna Voll of Titusville and Rockledge’s Kayla Gray. The other qualifying teams were Space Coast and Cocoa.

At Mallards Landing in Melbourne, Heritage won its second boys championship in a row, taking the District 12-2A title by a stroke over Eau Gallie. All four Panthers returned from last year’s district winner and will again move on to regional play. Heritage shot 364.
Palm Bay junior David Wertz also earned a regional spot, finishing first individually with a round of 79.
“My drives were all in play, and I had quite a few putts fall in,” Wertz said. “I was trying to shoot below 80 today, so I made my goal.”
With a 296, Viera’s boys placed second in the 16-3A field at Royal St. Cloud, as did Ryan Rozic individually, with a 72. Kyle Decenzo’s 73, Calvin Sierota at 75 and Tyler Greek (76) were close behind.
Chase Cutshall and Bryce Gressani of Melbourne High qualified as individuals.
