Let the recruiting feeding frenzy begin.
Just hours after USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian was placed on indefinite leave — only to be fired a day later — a top Oregon recruit was using the entire episode to reach out to USC commits in an attempt to bring them to Eugene.
LaMar Winston Jr., an outside linebacker for Portland Central Catholic, did not wait long to try and take advantage of USC’s sudden instability. And he did it in the most public way possible: on Twitter.
That’s a bold statement (perhaps no huge surprise given Winston Jr.’s oversized personality) to a group of teens who would have had little choice but to question their allegiance in the midst of total uncertainty about the Trojans. With Sarkisian’s long-term replacement a total mystery, any number of USC recruits will be expected to revisit their original collegiate choice.
Winston is just one of the most open in hoping he can sway their next move.
