Donte Vaughn is one of the top prospects in the state of Tennessee. That makes the Memphis native a prime target for the Volunteers, not to mention other nearby programs like Ole Miss, LSU and Auburn. It doesn’t matter, because the school among those he considered that was farthest away landed him on a day when it was all about him: Vaughn’s birthday.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Whitehaven cornerback made his official pledge to Notre Dame on Monday, announcing his decision on Twitter with the posting of a cell phone message accompanied by a happy birthday image of Vaughn in what will soon be his official Notre Dame uniform.
Vaughn’s decision is not necessarily a class-breaker or maker for Tennessee or Notre Dame, but it is a surprise, and a solid addition for the Irish.
And a nice touch for the Irish’s future class member, with a nod to the school’s official name: Notre Dame du lac. Well done, Mr. Vaughn. Well done.
