Here’s the latest LSJ prep athlete of the week candidates.

Here are the latest candidates for the Lansing State Journal prep athlete of the week. Voting is open until noon Wednesday. The winner will be featured in the print edition of the LSJ. Candidates should send a head shot of themselves to [email protected] (If poll doesn’t immediately appear, refresh your browser).

JESSI BURGE, EATON RAPIDS VOLLEYBALL: The senior libero helped the Greyhounds avenge an earlier loss to rival Charlotte with a strong showing in a five-set win over the Orioles. Burge had 31 digs, five aces and three assists to help Eaton Rapids post a 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 15-12 win. Burge has 412 digs this fall and is averaging 19 per match.

ERIN McDERMOTT, MASON VOLLEYBALL: The senior setter was a key contributor in helping the Bulldogs pull into a first-place tie with DeWitt in the CAAC Red last week. McDermott had 43 assists in Mason’s 23-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11 victory over Class A No. 10-ranked DeWitt. McDermott ranks among the area leaders in assists per set (8.9) for Mason, which is 21-7-2.

ALEX REINBOLD, CHARLOTTE TENNIS: The Orioles senior advanced to the Division 3 state finals for a fourth consecutive year after capturing the No. 1 singles title at last week’s regional at Haslett. Reinbold defeated Haslett’s Johnny Choi in the No. 1 singles title match to improve his win total to 106 for his career. Reinbold’s efforts helped Charlotte to a runner-up finish at the regional and the program’s first-ever trip to the state finals.

JD ROSS, DEWITT FOOTBALL: The junior running back had a breakout game while helping the Division 3 No. 4-ranked Panthers remain unbeaten and capture their 10th straight league title on Friday. Ross had four touchdowns, including three in the opening half of a 49-21 victory over St. Johns. He ran for 212 yards, which included TD runs of 83, 59 and 33 yards. He also had a 49-yard TD reception in the third quarter that helped swing momentum back in DeWitt’s direction.
