DeShawn Smith lines up as the quarterback for Florida high school Nature Coast. We feel fairly confident saying that he probably has a brighter future when lining up as another member of the backfield, as evidenced by the scramble he put on in a recent game captured in the highlight reel you see above.
That is absolutely mind-bending stuff, folks. Not just that Smith, a senior at Nature Coast, bulldozed would-be tacklers that were dumped to the side unceremoniously. It’s that he did so the right way, without major fanfare after he was done.
The real question is which great backs Smith most currently resembled on the play. His elusiveness in hitting the gap had echoes of Walter Payton, while his low center of gravity and ability to spin out of the pile still on his feet sure looked like Barry Sanders.
Of course, even evoking superstars like that gives one the sense of just how impressive Smith’s run was. Go watch it again. We promise it’s even better the second time around.
