Mick McCabe’s five show stoppers from Week 7 | USA Today High School Sports




These five high school players turned in stupendous performances to lead their teams to victories:


Lapeer: The 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior running back carried the ball 26 times for 334 yards and touchdown runs of 1, 28, 18, 76 and 5 yards to lead the Lightning to a 49-21 victory over previously unbeaten Midland.


Grand Rapids West Catholic: The senior running back ran for 279 yards on 29 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 5, 1, 24, 2 and 3 yards in a 42-35 victory over Division 4’s No. 4 Comstock Park.


Montague: The senior quarterback accounted for all six touchdowns by completing 10 of 15 passes for 157 yards and TDs of 6, 5, 16 and 54 yards, carried the ball seven times for 90 yards and an 18-yard TD, and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a score in a 42-18 win over Hopkins.


Midland Dow: The junior quarterback threw touchdown passes of 70, 40, 30, 57 and 12 yards, completing 18 of 24 passes for 350 yards. He also ran for a 1-yard score in a 41-28 win over Davison.


DeWitt: The 6-foot, 175 junior running back/strong safety gained 212 yards rushing and scored on runs of 83, 33 and 59 yards on 10 carries and caught a pass for a 49-yard TD. He also blocked a punt and had eight tackles as DeWitt won its 10th consecutive league title with a 49-21 win over St. Johns.
