Hendersonville routs Gallatin again | USA Today High School Sports

HENDERSONVILLE — Hendersonville took a big step toward securing a playoff berth, rolling to a 42-14 victory over Gallatin at Paul Decker Field on Friday.

The Commandos also won last year’s meeting between the long-time rivals, 56-14.

“We try to play for our community the most,” Hendersonville junior cornerback Luke Carver said. “It’s one of the best biggest rivalries. They beat us a lot in the past. We’re definitely trying to play our hardest.”

The Green Wave lead the all-time series with the Commandos 40-18-1.

Gallatin (4-4, 2-3 Region 6-5A) lost its third consecutive game and for the fourth time in its last five contests.

“We just have to believe in ourselves and come out and execute,” Green Wave coach Mark Williams said. “As a coaching staff, we believe they can get it done. They have to believe it.”

The Green Wave tied the game early as junior tailback Jordan Mason fumbled at the goal line, but classmate Dezmond Chambers recovered the loose football in the end zone.

However, Hendersonville senior Jack Towe returned the ensuing kickoff 66 yards for a touchdown. Then the Commandos (7-1, 4-1) produced 21 points in the second quarter and scored again on the opening possession of the second half, extending the lead to 42-7.

Towe had touchdown runs of 14 and 5 yards, and senior Mike Harris, junior Terrell Carter and sophomore Anthony Hughes also ran for scores.

“I see improvement on a week-to-week basis,” Towe said. “We work hard every day to get better so we can be good in games. I give it all to my linemen. They do it all for us.”

Chambers had a 59-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.
