Oregon’s football team added another quarterback to its 2016 recruiting class commitments this week, and it might have been perfect timing.
Justin Herbert, a three-star quarterback from Sheldon High School in Eugene, announced Thursday on Twitter that he has verbally committed to signing with the Ducks.
Seth Green, a four-star quarterback from Allen, Texas, is reportedly reconsidering his commitment to Oregon. The Oregonian reported earlier this week that Green is rumored to have already decommitted from Oregon. Rivals.com and Scout.com both still list Green as being committed to the Ducks. Green was scheduled to make his official visit to Oregon two weeks ago.
“I’ve been told he de-committed,” Herbert told The Oregonian.
Green, who transferred from Minnesota last spring, is splitting time at Allen with Mitchell Jonke in a two-headed monster for the fourth-ranked Eagles. Allen has won 50 consecutive games.
In a 49-13 victory against Hebron on Friday night, Allen threw four touchdowns in the first half and added a fifth — from 79 yards out — in the second half.
If Green stays committed to Oregon, then the Ducks have three quarterbacks in their 2016 class — Green, Herbert and three-star recruit Terry Wilson from Del City, Oklahoma.
If Green opts to go elsewhere, then the Ducks will have Herbert and Wilson joining junior Jeff Lockie, sophomore Taylor Alie, redshirt freshman Morgan Mahalak and true freshman Travis Jonsen in the group of quarterbacks battling for the starting job next season.
