CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Defending 4AA state champion Mallard Creek remained No. 1 in the Class 4A Associated Press poll this week.
The Mavericks (6-1) are gearing up for what many consider to be the toughest stretch of their schedule. Mallard Creek faces Mecka foes Hough, Vance, and A.L. Brown in a three-week span before wrapping up the regular season at home against North Meck. Speaking of Brown, the Wonders made the leap into the Top 10 after defeating Vance on Monday, reaching the No. 7 spot.

If you believe that once is chance, twice is coincidence, and the third time is a trend, then you’ll start to pick up on the pattern in this week’s high school football polls. In Class 2A, defending state champions East Lincoln and Shelby claimed all 16 first-place votes. East Lincoln sits first with 12 votes for the top spot, with the Golden Lions sitting just 8 points behind the Mustangs in second. Both teams are undefeated, with Shelby’s biggest test coming November 6th when they host Crest.
