Lakeland, Mamamaroneck, Rye top field hockey rankings | USA Today High School Sports

Week 6 Lohud field hockey rankings

1.    Lakeland: Yes, Pawling is a small school. But Pawling was 10-0 and had beaten schools a lot bigger than itself. Then it played Lakeland. At the final horn, the score was 9-0. The Hornets are just that good.

2.    Mamaroneck: Still undefeated and looking for another state title. John Savage’s crew is the real deal.

3.    Rye: If this team has a weakness, no one has been able to capitalize on it yet. The Garnets were deadlocked 0-0 with Harrison in the second half Thursday but that was because of a stand-on-her-head performance by Huskies’ goalie Christina DeCarlo that included 16 first-half saves. Eventually, Rye won 4-0 because Rye just wears down the opposition.

4.    Horace Greeley : Sukhi Sandhu’s team has 11 wins and only two losses, the losses shutouts to Lakeland and Mamaroneck. It has had some close calls and maybe could use a little more scoring but 11-2 still is a great mark that says a lot about where this program is heading.

5.    Scarsdale:  The Raiders’ 10 wins place them as a top-five team.

6.    Bronxville: The Broncos have three losses but that reflects the small school’s big strength of schedule. Included among its losses was one to Scarsdale with no time on the clock off a penalty corner.

7.    North Rockland: It doesn’t always winning by a lot and certainly doesn’t have the strength of schedule that some teams have. But the Red Raiders’ nine wins can’t be ignored..

8.    Pawling:  Yes, it got skunked by Lakeland. But this is a young team that, otherwise, has 11 wins. Look for steady improvement.

9.    Hackley:  Depending on what’s decided, the Hornets either lost to Rye by two goals in a storm-shortened game, were trailing in a game that was suspended, or ended up playing what amounts to a scrimmage against Rye. Either way, they showed they’re a strong team, unafraid of the big guns.

10.  Holy Child and Rye Country Day: :Both squads have one loss, each by a goal, RCDS’s coming to Holy Child at the start of the season and Holy Child falling to Hackley.. One big game to look for is RCDS vs. Hackley on the 19th.
