No.4 Jeffersonville swept past Evansville North 5-0 to claim its second straight IHSAA semistate title on Saturday at Jasper.
The Red Devils (21-0) advanced to meet No.20 Culver (17-2) in the state quarterfinals at Carmel on Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. Evansville North finished 17-2.
Brock Winchell defeated Austin Holmes 6-4, 6-3 at No.1 singles, Kooper Falkenstein dominated Evan Ferguson 6-1, 6-1 at No.2, and Bradley Cross stopped Shoak Zyas 6-1, 6-3 at No.3.
In doubles, Jackson Reilly and Stan Coward swept past John Benson and Pat Pieken 6-0, 6-0 at No.1, while Keith Asplund and Blake Winchell decked Sam Hahn and Luke Rusher 6-2, 6-1 at No.2
“The kids were really relaxed and had high energy,” Jeffersonville coach Mark Reilly said. “They didn’t let things get to them. We kept our composure and kept focusing on the next point.
“Once kids have been there, it gives them confidence knowing they can win. Accomplishing something for the first time is tough.”
In the other quarterfinals, No.1 Carmel (17-1) will face No.2 North Central (18-0), Jasper (14-4) will meet Park Tudor (16-4) and Perry Meridian (23-5) will play Leo (23-2).
