You’ll Soon Be Able to Backup Whatsapp Data to Google Drive :

WhatsApp has more than 900 million users worldwide, and is the most popular instant messaging service available across all platforms. Today, the company has announced a new feature in conjunction with Google Drive to bring native cloud support to the messaging app.

With the new Google Drive Integration, WhatsApp for Android will let its users create private backups of their complete messaging history that includes voice messages, photos, videos and, of course, their text message history. The new backup feature will let users easily restore all of their backed up data onto a new device.

Anyone who enables the features in Settings, will have the option of choosing between daily, weekly or monthly backups of the WhatsApp data. The setting also includes an option to choose whether to backup videos or not. It’s a nice addition to let users choose what to backup and how regularly.

The backups take up space on the Google Drive so if you don’t have enough space, you should make up some by deleting old files. The cloud storage could get filled up very quickly if a user has a lot of videos and voice messages. A long WhatsApp history could become bigger than a GB (or GBs if you are a messaging freak). So keep that in mind when selecting the consistency of online backups as upload speeds are generally pretty slow and will take a lot of time to upload a huge backup file.

The feature will roll out over the next few months to all users so keep an eye out for the update. WhatsApp can be downloaded from here in case you haven’t installed it already.
