Week 8 preview/pick | St. Xavier at Manual | USA Today High School Sports

ST. XAVIER (4-2) AT MANUAL (6-0)

Tigers have won 26 straight vs. Crimsons, dating to 1993

* Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

* St. Xavier is looking to rebound from a 20-15 loss to rival Trinity last week. The Tigers were limited to 145 total yards, and junior quarterback Desmond Ridder threw three interceptions in the second half. St. X has narrowly escaped against Manual the past two seasons, winning 24-23 in 2013 and 12-7 last year in the second round of the Class 6-A playoffs.

* Manual is 6-0 for the third straight season after beating Butler 47-0 last week. It was the third shutout of the year for a Crimsons defense that is allowing just 7.8 points per game. Junior Bryce Cosby tops the secondary with four interceptions and has returned two for touchdowns. Sophomore Troy Henderson (64 carries, 544 yards, six touchdowns) leads Manual’s rushing attack.

* Quotable: “This team is unique because they believe in themselves and have great leadership,” Manual coach Oliver Lucas said. “This could be one of our finest teams if we continue to build on what we’ve done so far. We have a chance against St. X. But to be a big-boy team you have to beat the big boys.”

* The pick: St. Xavier 20-13.
