No.4 Jeffersonville will face Evansville North in the boys’ tennis semistate at Jasper on Saturday.
The Huskies have already faced the Red Devils this season in the Jeffersonville Invitational and Jeffersonville won that event, while the Huskies settled for second in the eight-team field.
The winner will face either No.17 Munster (20-1) or No.20 Culver (16-2) in the state quarterfinals at Carmel on Oct. 16 at 3 p.m.
The Red Devils (20-0) are the defending semistate champions. They lost to Jasper in last year’s state quarterfinal. Evansville North (17-1) defeated Evansville Mater Dei 4-1 to win the regional title.
Cross country sectionals scheduled on Saturday
The cross country state tournament series will begin on Saturday with southern Indiana sectionals scheduled at Southwestern, Crawford County and Bedford.
The top five teams, plus the top 10 individuals who are not members of advancing teams, will qualify for the regionals (hosted by Crawford County and Bedford) on Oct.17. Semistate is set for Brown County on Oct. 24.
Soccer sectional champs to compete in regionals
Jasper will host the Class 2-A girls soccer regional on Oct. 14 and 17.
The winner from Floyd Central will face the champion from Greensburg in the second regional semifinal. The regional champion will advance to the semistate in Evansville on Oct. 24.
In Class A, the winner from Forest Park will visit the victor from Lawrenceburg in a one-game regional on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. That champion will advance to the semistate in Evansville on Oct. 24.
In boys soccer, the Class 2-A sectional champion from Floyd Central will advance to the two-game regional at Columbus on Oct. 15 and 17. The Floyd winner will meet the victor from Richmond in the first semifinal. The regional champion will advance to the semistate at Evansville on Oct. 24.
In Class A, the winner from Providence will face the champion from Mitchell in a regional semifinal at Switzerland County on Oct. 15. The regional final is set for Oct. 17, with the winner advancing to the semistate at Floyd Central on Oct. 24.
Football draw set for Sunday
The IHSAA will conduct the draw for the football state tournaments on Sunday at 5 p.m.
The 90-minute show will be broadcast by Fox Sports Indiana and webstreamed at IHSAAtv.com, and it will be carried by the IHSAA Champions Network on radio.
Sectional games will begin on Oct. 23.
