Rico Dowdle became only the third Reynolds football player since 2000 to reach 3,000 career rushing yards in Friday’s 54-21 home win over Asheville High.
Dowdle (380 all-time attempts for 3,017 yards) ran for 249 yards and six touchdowns Friday. The senior was named the Great American Rivalry Series’ most valuable player for the Mountain Athletic Conference game.
The school record for career rushing at Reynolds (5,243 yards) is held by 2006 graduate Willie Harper who played at Western Carolina University after graduation.
Dowdle has been converted from a running back into a quarterback this season but still leads all mountain rushers with 1,338 yards and 27 touchdowns. He and the Rockets (6-1, 1-0) are idle this week.
