DESOTO, Texas – No matter the sport, elite recruits are often in agreement about how difficult their college decision will ultimately be.
On one hand they’re happy to be in the position to have major options, but the flip side is that a great deal of stress accompanies said position.
Most concede that the intangibles are the things that help schools ultimately win out.
If that’s true then the schools recruiting DeSoto (DeSoto, Texas) center Marques Bolden may need to worry.
Last week during offseason workouts, Bolden, who is ranked No. 2 among centers in the ESPN 100, was sporting a green DeSoto shirt that read “EAGLE DEFENSE.”
And smack-dab in the middle of the shirt was the trademark Duke “D” that the Blue Devils wear on their jerseys and shorts.
Duke is a finalist to land Bolden along with Kentucky, Kansas, Baylor, Alabama, TCU, Oklahoma and Wake Forest.
So does Duke’s “D” offer a not-so-subtle hint at where the 6-foot-10 big man may end up?
“No,” Bolden said with a laugh. “That’s our “D” too; for DeSoto. I didn’t get the Duke “D” printed up or anything like that. I’m looking at everybody.”
Bolden’s most recent official visit was to Duke; he’d already taken an official to Kentucky in early September.
Next up is Kansas, which Bolden had to reschedule and is still undecided on an exact date.
“I’m 100 percent going on the Kansas visit,” Bolden said. “I will say this; I feel like I’m getting way closer to deciding, I’m not ready to do it just yet though. The biggest things that will go into my decision are the style of play and my relationship with the coach.”
And, no, the school’s letter will not be a factor.
