Zach Ropes took first in the 5k, completing the course at Croton Point Park in 17:09 to lead the Our Lady of Lourdes High School boys cross country team to first place in the Conference 1 championships on Tuesday.
The Warriors captured their first league title since 1989, Lourdes coach Maureen Myers said. They finished ahead of Beacon, 32-48. Ossining took third (69).
“It’s awesome,” Myers said. “We’ve always had some top runners, but we’ve never had the four, five and six guys to round out the team. Now we’re running well as a team.”
Lourdes’ Will Whelan finished second (17:17), Jack Belardo took seventh (18:20), Alex Scotto placed eighth (18:22), Stephen Baker finished 14th (18:34), Andrew Lam took 17th (18:56) and Luke Della Pietra took 18th (19:01).
Beacon’s Axavier Wajid took fourth (18:07) and Evan Ireland finished fifth (18:07).
Caroline Timm took first in the 5k (19:01) and Isabella Clark took third (22:10) for Lourdes, but Hendrick Hudson won the girls league title.
Jessica Schroedl defeated Mikal Kalus in first singles, 6-0, 6-3, to lift the visiting Franklin D. Roosevelt girls tennis team over New Paltz, 3-2, on Tuesday.
Kelly Wilson topped New Paltz’s Alexandra Nicolas, 7-6 (5), 6-0, to win second singles.
The New Paltz first doubles team of Madeline Finnegan and Grace Morrissey topped Mahalia Isabel and Ashley Dolan by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-1.
“Jessica (Schroedl) and Kelly (Wilson) at first and second singles were too strong for us today and helped to bring home the victory for FDR,” said New Paltz coach Scott Taylor in a statement. “Kelly (Wilson) raised her level to take the second set against Alex (Nicolas) and give FDR the team win.”
Spackenkill 3, Onteora 2 — Cynthia Ma defeated Bailey Kretschmer, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, at second singles for Spackenkill (8-0). Charlotte Katz and Madison Myers beat Suika Sono-Anoukes and Brooke Parslow, 6-1, 6-4, in first doubles for the Spartans.
Our Lady of Lourdes 4, Walter Panas 3 — Dayna DiMarco defeated Mya Lipscomb, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles to lead Lourdes. Danielle Ogonowski won at second singles, 0-6, 6-3, 10-8. Mariette Sargios and Sarah Sayegh won, 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 10-6, at second doubles for the Warriors.
Max LaFalce shot a 3-over-par 37 at Dinsmore Golf Course to lead host Franklin D. Roosevelt over Highland, 159-190, on Tuesday.
Jeff Peters and Zach Plambeck each carded a 39 and Jake Rand shot a 44 for the Presidents (7-3).
Rob Whelan shot a 42 for Highland.
Roosevelt will compete in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championships at Apple Greens Golf Course on Thursday.
Webutuck 209, Millbrook 212, Onteora 240 — Ahmatik Jones carded a 43 at par-36 Sharon Country Club to lead Webutuck in a tri-match. Danny Thomas shot a 51 and Paul Thomas had a 52.
Millbrook’s Pat Kyle carded a 49 and Mike Pasquale had a 51.
