PORTLAND, Ore. — The accolades are already coming in for former Jesuit High School star basketball player Kyle Wiltjer as he enters his senior season at Gonzaga.
Wiltjer was named CBS Sports’ Preseason College Basketball Player of the Year on Tuesday.
He led Gonzaga to the Elite 8 last season, averaging 16.8 points per game.
Wiltjer was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and was an Associated Press third-team All-American last season. He also appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound power forward is entering his second season at Gonzaga. Wiltjer spent his first two seasons at Kentucky and was part of the Wildcats’ 2011-12 national championship team.
Wiltjer helped lead the Crusaders to three straight OSAA 6A state championships from 2009-11, a record West Linn tied last season.
