The 2015 Class of the St. Philip Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted during ceremonies surrounding the St. Philip vs. Waldron football game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at C.W. Post Field.
The two-member 2015 class includes Ted Fitzgerald and Mike Leifeld, as they will be introduced during halftime of Saturday’s game.
Ted Fitzgerald – Coach: A graduate and standout athlete at Hastings High School, Fitzgerald came to Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools following graduation at Western Michigan University and spent 24 years teaching health and physical education at the elementary, middle and high school levels. He has also been coach at the freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels in basketball for 17 years, helping the Tigers to regional championship in 2002. Active in volunteerism, Fitzgerald also helped with renovations in the school gym, Tiger Den and Walsh Field.
Mike Leifeld – Class of 2003: Leifeld was a three-sport standout at St. Philip, earning 12 varsity letters. During his senior year, Leifeld earned All-State honors in three sports – football, basketball and baseball. Leifeld set the career record for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns at the school. He also set career records in basketball for scoring and steals. After his senior season, Leifeld was awarded the U.S. Army National Scholar Award. Leifeld went to play at Kalamazoo College where he was a four-year starting shortstop on the baseball team and a three-year starter on the football team.
