Here’s one you don’t see everyday.
During DeMatha’s rout of St. John’s, four-star wide receiver and defensive back Tino Ellis also turned in the biggest play of the day on special teams, not only getting to the St. John’s punter, but blocking his punt … with his foot.
It was a truly terrific play, the kind of disruptive special teams play that only true stars contribute. It created a touchdown out of nothing, which could have been a game-changer if Tino Ellis hadn’t already taken over the game; the Maryland commit was a key factor in the Stags’ 40-0 victory, the latest big win in a season of them.
And no play exemplified DeMatha’s sheer dominance like Ellis’ blocked punt, whether he can ever pull off such an explosive and remarkable special teams play again or not.
