Stanley Garrant and the Spackenkill High School boys golf team saved the best for last Monday.
The Spartans, playing at par-36 McCann Memorial Golf Course Monday, beat visiting Onteora 151-208. It was the Spartans’ lowest score of the year and their final league match of the year. Garrant carded a career-best 32 with one eagle, two birdies and six pars.
Garrant’s performance left Spackenkill coach Keith Humphrey in awe.
“It was a pretty amazing day for Stanley,” Humphrey said. “It was his lowest score in all six years. I’ve never seen someone end their (regular season) career like that.”
Erik Stauderman shot a 34 with two birdies and seven pars. Ryan Ackert’s 39 featured one birdie and five pars. Onteora’s Justin Lane shot a 35 with one birdie and eight pars.
“Erik was very excited getting ready for MHALs (the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championship). I’m proud of how the kids committed themselves to improving their golf game,” Humphrey added.
Spackenkill’s win put the Spartans at a perfect 11-0 for the regular season. The MHAL championship is on Thursday at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland.
Humphrey is expecting his team to be ready.
“I’m very confident we’ll be prepared and we’re ready to compete,” Humphrey said. “It’ll be a different format, playing with four teams, but I think they’re excited and ready to give it their best shot.”
