Algonac remains No. 1 in latest poll | USA Today High School Sports

The Times Herald football poll has gone through numerous changes this season, but for the second consecutive week, the poll features the same team on top.

The Algonac Muskrats (5-0, 6-0) have continued to prove themselves throughout the season. On Friday, the Muskrats qualified for a postseason berth by defeating Croswell-Lexington 33-21.

The game allowed the Muskrats to remain on top of the poll and it also set up a big contest this weekend at home against fellow unbeaten Blue Water Area Conference opponent Almont (5-0, 6-0).

Richmond (4-1, 5-1) meanwhile comes in second in the poll. Richmond bounced back from its first defeat this season by defeating Armada 55-0. They will have another winnable game this weekend against Capac.

Sandusky, the only other undefeated team in the poll, comes in at No. 3. Sandusky (6-0) continues to roll through the Greater Thumb Area Conference East Division.

Most recently, they defeated rival Marlette, 48-6, to improve to 3-0 in conference play. Sandusky will return Friday in another rivalry contest, this time against Brown City.

The Croswell-Lexington Pioneers (3-2, 4-2) fell one spot to fourth in the poll after falling to Algonac on homecoming. Marine City (2-1, 3-3) dropped its second straight game to fall to fifth in the poll.

The Mariners need to rebound quickly in order to stay in the Macomb Area Conference Gold Division race. They will face Port Huron Northern (2-1, 4-2) at Memorial Stadium. The Huskies, the No. 7 team in the poll, have won four consecutive games, including two of those games by shutout.

Coming in at No. 6 is Marysville (2-1, 4-2), which has won three consecutive games. The Vikings have a big game this Friday at home against Sterling Heights, which is undefeated in the MAC Gold at 3-0.

Port Huron (2-4) is eighth in the poll after dropping a hard fought contest at Warren Mott, 18-13. The Big Reds will hope to rebound Friday at Romeo in a MAC White Division contest.

St. Clair (0-3, 2-4) will be searching for its first league victory of the season this week when it faces Warren Woods Tower. The Huskies lost to Northern 21-18 last week.

Brown City (2-1, 2-4) fell to Harbor Beach last week after winning two straight. Brown City will hope to regroup this weekend when it takes on Sandusky.
