FAISALABAD: Scores of residents of Mohallah Yousuf Abad, Madina Town, staged a demonstration on Sunday against doctors’ negligence in administering an injection to an 11-year-old boy who later died.

The protesters gathered at Faizan-i-Madina Chowk and blocked Susan Road for traffic for hours.

Rehmat Khan, one of the protesters, said, “Aakash Imtiaz, 11, had complained of a sore throat and was taken to Mujahid Hospital for treatment.” He said at the hospital, one of the staff treating Imtiaz administered an injection after which his condition deteriorated and he died.

His relatives and other attendants gathered in front of the hospital and damaged some of the furniture and equipment there. They later took their protest to Faizan-i-Madina Chowk.

The protesters shouted slogans against the hospital’s administration and demanded action against the hospital.

During the demonstration, a cameraman from a TV channel got into an argument with one of the protesters. A fist fight broke out and people in the area had to intervene.

A police team headed by Madina Town SHO Ghulam Nabi arrived at the demonstration and assured the protesters that they would take action against the hospital staff according to law.

The protesters then called off the demonstration. The police took the body to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
