Lee County girls impress at FSU Pre-State | USA Today High School Sports

Five girls runners from Lee County secured times of under 20-minutes at the Florida State University Pre-State Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Tallahassee.

Fort Myers sophomore Krissy Gear led all runners with a 13th place finish in 18:43, the second best time of her career following a breakout 18:35 at the FLrunners.com Invite 16 the previous weekend.

North Fort Myers junior Kayla Easterly, meanwhile, finished in a career-best 19:19, which was nearly 30 seconds better than her best from a year ago and 35 seconds better then her race at states on the same course last November.

Estero senior Daley Cline, who won homecoming queen the previous night during the Wildcats’ football game, secured a time of 19:45. Fort Myers freshman Kailyn Kaminski crossed the tape in 19:58, while Estero junior Megan Giovanniello wasn’t far behind in 19:59.6.

Fort Myers freshman Jenna Fedec timed in at 20:16, while junior teammate Avery Scrabis followed in 20:36. In the girls elite race, the final competitor crossed the line in 20:48.

In the boys elite race, Fort Myers junior Josh Kennedy led the Green Wave in 16:12, while teammate Evan Babatz followed in 16:30. Estero coach Ben Pignatone chose to place his boys in the select race, where teammates Arye Beck and Jacob Dorn proceeded to finish back-to-back in 16th and 17th place, respectively.

Beck crossed the finish in 16:47, while Dorn followed in 16:51. Estero freshman Hugh Brittenham dropped 59 seconds from the previous week, hitting a personal best of 17:00.

And in the varsity girls A race, Evangelical Christian school had three finishers within four places of each other. Eighth-grader Sierra Oliveira crossed the finish first at 21:14, while her sister, Moriah, came next at 21:27 and freshman Elizabeth Wetmore was after her at 21:27. The Sentinels placed seventh out of 22 teams in the division.

Riverdale won the varsity boys A race, using five finishes all within 15 places of each other to secured a solid showing.

Senior Dennis Esckilsen led the Raiders with a time of 17:37.
