High school roundup: John Jay volleyball sweeps Mahopac | USA Today High School Sports

Sam Fitzgerald had four aces, 11 kills and seven blocks to help lead the John Jay High School volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 win over visiting Mahopac Friday.

Fitzgerald secured a hitting percentage of 450 with one error.

“She was unbelievable,” said Patriots coach Maria Mahoney of Fitzgerald.

Kirsten Zier (eight aces, three kills, seven digs) and Alyssa Ashley (14 assists) also contributed.

John Jay (7-3) visits Ossining at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Spackenkill 3, Rondout Valley 0 — Brenna Nelson had two aces and 24 assists to help lead the host Spartans to a 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 win.

Courtney Noll (six kills, one ace, one block) and Nini Sher (one ace, one block) chipped in.

Spackenkill (9-3) visits Ellenville Monday.

Pawling 3, Putnam Valley 0 — Jaclyn Smith had five aces, 15 kills and eight digs to lead the host Tigers over Putnam Valley, 23-13, 25-13, 25-7. Clara Lombardo had 21 assists, while Emma Heubel had eight kills.

Pawling (7-1) hosts its tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Millbrook 3, Poughkeepsie 0 — Megan Fergus had 12 kills while Kayla Gusikoff had 19 assists and 12 aces, as the Blazers won 25-8, 25-12, 25-11. Liz Halpin added three kills and seven aces for Millbrook (8-1), which hosts Highland and Onteora on Monday.

Arlington 3, Ketcham 1 — Naraya Price had nine kills for the host Indians as the Admirals won 25-23, 13-25, 25-12, 25-12.

Danielle Kauffman had 16 digs, while Courtney Friday had five kills.

Ketcham visits Haldane Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Faith Christian Academy 3, Oakwood Friends 0 — Madison Mackin had four digs with 24 service points to lift Faith Christian Academy 25-17, 25-9, 25-12.

Eshaa Munder recorded six kills and 10 service points, while Lydia Wasdary had four kills, four digs and six service points.

Boys golf

Cam Hackett had a low score of 46 for the visiting Red Hook boys golf team as they fell to Rondout Valley, 176-208, at the par-35 Rondout Golf Club. Red Hook dropped to 6-3.

Girls tennis

Emily Bautista and Megan Dowd won their match at second doubles, but the visiting Beacon Bulldogs lost 4-1 to North Salem.

Beacon (3-4) visits John F. Kennedy Catholic Monday.

Field hockey

Pine Plains fell 1-0 in overtime to host Taconic Hills.

Amanda Simmons made six saves for the Bombers, who host Rhinebeck at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Girls swimming and diving

John Jay defeated visiting Ketcham, 87-70.

DeAnna Newman won the 50 freestyle in 28.02 for the Patriots. She teamed with Teresa Scarduzio Ereena Akirtava, Violetta Dekert and Anna Rivera to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:00.78).

Sarah Gerlein won the 500 freestyle (6:29.47) and Amy Zhou won the 100 breastroke (1:20.50).

Kimberly Simpfenderfer won the 200 individual medley (2:32.13) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.58) for the Indians. Heidi Simpfenderfer won the 200 freestyle (2:06.33) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.47). Sabine Smith won the 100 freestyle (1:01.95).
