Battling rainy weather, and the defending Section 1 Class A champions, the Our Lady of Lourdes High School football team lost to host Rye, 13-7, on Friday.
Wide receiver Luke Timm caught a 40-yard pass in the end zone from quarterback Dean Rotger for the Warriors’ lone touchdown. Tied 7-7 at halftime, Rye pulled ahead in the third quarter.
“It was pretty much a defensive battle,” Lourdes coach Brian Walsh said. “We had a hard time throwing the ball because of the weather and a rough time running the ball.”
Walsh credited Chris Mulvey and Kevin Doyle for their play on defense.
“Those guys really played well. Rye is a good football team and we limited them, too — held them to 13,” Walsh said. “I’m very proud of them.”
Lourdes (3-2) visits John Jay-Cross River in Katonah at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
“We have to work on our running game,” Walsh said. “We have to eliminate mistakes.”
