Two games in two days. And the Presidents struck first.
Hosting Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School boys soccer team beat the Pioneers, 6-0. The Pioneers will host the Presidents at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
“I think coming off such a high note, they’ll be ready to play,” Roosevelt coach Brandon Opitz said, adding that Wednesday’s win was a “big boost” for his team. “We’re looking forward to another game tomorrow (Thursday).”
Ethan Hart helped provide that boost, scoring three goals and distributing an assist. Brandon Gracias chipped in with one goal. Bethuel Yebouet, returning to the lineup after missing two games with a leg injury, had one goal and one assist. Tommy Heslin topped off the scoring with a goal, while Jair Cruz, Jorge Lopez and Nick Lambert each made an assist.
Keeper Ryan Diehl stopped five shots on goal.
“It was good we were able to get a balanced offense with a bunch of guys assisting and finishing,” said Opitz, whose Presidents improved to 5-4.
“It started with our midfield, holding our shape well and doing a great job clearing the ball out. Ryan did a great job holding everything down and communicating, letting guys know what was going on.”
Poughkeepsie dropped to 3-6 with the loss.
