Going into a crucial conference matchup against Mason, Evan Greisinger was certain multiple goals would need to be scored for his side to come out victorious.
But it only took one.
And it was the DeWitt sophomore who headed home the game-winning goal midway through the first half to hand his team a much-needed win over the Bulldogs last week.
The header not only gave the Panthers (8-2-4) their biggest win of the season — Mason was the No. 1 team in Division 2 at the time — but it was also voted the LSJ prep video of the week.

“I didn’t even see (the goalie), I was just trying to get my head on it,” Greisinger said. “I didn’t think it would be the game-winner, but I figured we had a chance to win because we practiced hard leading up to that game.
“We were looking forward to that game. We wanted to prove ourselves because we feel people have doubted us this year.”

Greisinger said the win was a confidence booster. And, now, the team feels good about its chances of earning at least a piece of the conference crown.
DeWitt, the 14th-ranked team in Division 2, was on a six-game winning streak before losing in overtime earlier this week to Haslett. Currently, the Panthers, Bulldogs and Vikings are in a three-way tie for first in the CAAC Red — a league Mason has won the past 13 years.
“(The loss) to Haslett motivated us,” said Greisinger, who is second in goals on the team with eight. “We want to work harder to prove ourselves even more.”
