Even if the Taliban are thrown out of Kunduz, they have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with
JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: As per latest reports, Afghan troops are still engaged with the Taliban to take back the prized city of Kunduz. Even if the Taliban are thrown out of Kunduz, they have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. They have disproved the rumours of splits amongst their ranks. Why are we back at square one, even with US/Nato countries having spent over $50 billion on Afghanistan since 2001? They stationed thousands of trained soldiers and world class intelligence agencies in the country. Then why is all this happening?
We need to blame only ourselves because it’s we who differentiate between the good and bad Taliban; it’s we who engage in peace dialogue with the so-called ‘good’ Taliban and then wonder why Kunduz has fallen. All countries in the region need to be honest with themselves — supporting this or that ‘good’ terrorist group and wishfully thinking of being spared by ‘bad’ terrorists is not going to get us anywhere.
