Field hockey roundup: DeCosta, Bahret lead John Jay in win | USA Today High School Sports

Samantha DeCosta and Cailin Bahret each scored to lead host John Jay over Arlington, 2-0, in field hockey on Thursday in Wiccopee.

DeCosta put the Patriots on the board, scoring off a pass from Ellie Reck with 16:43 left in the first half. Bahret then scored off a feed from Jenna Fusco six minutes later. Meghan Murray made three saves for John Jay (5-4-1).

Sarah McGowan had five saves for Arlington (4-6).

“Arlington is always a big game for us so it was nice to get an early lead,” Patriots coach Kristen Perry said. “It started with the defense transitioning the ball up to initiate offense, and our forwards finished.”

John Jay hosts Carmel at 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Pawling 4, Our Lady of Lourdes 0 — Bella Santiago scored two goals to lead host Pawling. Carly McGrath added a goal off a pass from Frankie Fleming, and Lexi Fleming scored off a feed from Lauren Folchetti. Kayla Chavarri made two saves for the Tigers (9-0).

Mia Ardovini-Brooker had 13 saves for Lourdes.

“We moved the ball very well and the team executed very well,” Pawling coach June Lagan said. “We scored three goals in the first half and really applied pressure.”

Pawling visits North Salem at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Mahopac 4, Roy C. Ketcham 1 — Julia Delaney scored the visiting Indians’ lone goal while goalie Kristen DeSousa made 10 saves.

Ketcham hosts Arlington at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Rondout Valley 9, Rhinebeck 0 — Goalkeeper Sarah Fleischhauer had 12 saves for the host Hawks,
