What a better time to bounce back from the worst week of my #BeatBrian career than “Districts Week.”

That’s right, after Friday night 12-of-13 teams from the PNJ-coverage area will have played their first district games.

West Florida is off this Friday and played their first District 1-5A game in Week Four … Northview will have its first District 1-1A game in Week Eight.

This week we’ll be picking from eight games, with five of them at home.

In some ways everything that has happened this season has been washed away, with playoff hopes riding on these crucial district games.

Now, let’s get down to picking:

Catholic at Florida High: I see Florida High as the favorite in District 1-3A, with wins over Leon and Arnold this season. Catholic will seek it’s first win since Sept. 4, but I don’t see that happening this Friday.

Jay at Baker: It’s been a rough start for Jay and I don’t see things getting easier this week. Baker is the defendind District 1-1A champ and has been averaging 35 points-per-game this season.

Maplesville (Ala.) at Northview: Maplesville is notorious for putting up big points as the team went 15-0 last year. Northview will have it’s hands full while seeking it’s second-straight win this season.

PHS at Bay: While Bay holds a top-10 ranking in Class 5A in Florida, I see the Tigers switching things up this week. Watch for the Tigers to have one of their biggest offensive outputs of the season this Friday night.

Washington at Tate: Tate is just too good to go against here. The Aggies played Niceville close and had chances to win last Friday.

Escambia at Pine Forest: Here’s this big one. The area’s two top rushing programs will clash at Pine Forest’s homecoming to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pine Forest football. Both defenses are great in this one. It’s tough, but I gotta make a decision.

Gulf Breeze at Milton: Milton is arguably the most improved team from last season. While the Panthers suffered their first loss last week, I see Milton starting it’s district season off on the right foot.

Milton over Gulf Breeze

Pace at Navarre: Team’s records will tell you all you need to know in this one. I see Navarre remaining perfect and sitting at the top of District 2-6A after Friday night.
