Friday’s games

Palm Bay (3-1, 1-0) at Titusville (2-3, 1-0)

7 p.m.

Last week: The Pirates won handily at Melbourne, 42-0. At Astronaut, the Terriers were handled, 40-0.

Game note: District 14-5A game. Titusville, which had not made the playoffs since 1995, qualified last season largely by virtue of a 25-20 comeback win at Palm Bay, which had made the playoffs every year beginning in 1996.

Brevard midseason high school football review

Viera (2-3, 0-0) at Melbourne (0-4, 0-0)


Last week: The Hawks fell at Cocoa, 49-42, while the Bulldogs were beaten at home by Palm Bay, 42-0.

Game note: District 6-7A game. Last year’s 21-14 Viera win at Melbourne was key to the Hawks’ first district title and playoff appearance.

Satellite (1-3, 0-1) at Merritt Island (3-2, 1-0)


Last week: The Scorps defeated Bayside, 13-7. The Mustangs beat Port St. Lucie, 34-7.

Game note: Merritt Island leads the series with Satellite, 36-5, and has won the last 12. Scorps last won in 1996.

Space Coast (2-1, 0-1) at Rockledge (2-2, 0-1)


Last week: The Vipers’ game at Poinciana was rescheduled for Oct. 9. The Raiders last played Sept. 18, losing at Palm Bay, 41-17.

Game note: Space Coast, which had a game cut short at St. Cloud on Sept. 11, has missed two playing opportunities this season. Rockledge can surpass its 2014 win total.

Okeechobee (2-2, 0-1) at Heritage (3-1, 1-0)


Last week: The Brahmans were off, last playing in a 41-7 loss to Sebastian River on Sept. 19. The Panthers knocked off Class 8A No. 3 Kissimmee Osceola on the road, 34-14.

Game note: District 14-6A. Panthers can maintain a share of district lead with win and have won the previous two district games against Okeechobee.

Separation week in Brevard high school football

Jones (2-3, 0-0) at Astronaut (2-2, 1-0)


Last week: The Orlando school lost to West Orange, 42-26. The War Eagles defeated Titusville, 40-0.

Game note: District 5-4A game. These are new district foes, Astronaut having dropped down from 5A due to enrollment.

Melbourne CC (3-2) at Cocoa Beach (1-4)


Last week: The Hustlers lost to Class 1A No. 4 Union County, 18-7, while the Minutemen lost to Holy Trinity, 24-13.

Game note: Non-district rivalry. Both have played Holy Trinity, MCC with a 32-24 loss on Sept. 18.

Holy Trinity (3-1) at Trinity Christian (2-2)

7, Deltona

Last week: The Tigers won at Cocoa Beach, 24-13. The Eagles defeated Harvest Community, 20-0.

Game note: Both teams have played Harvest Community, Holy Trinity having won there, 36-7, in Week 2, in a weather-shortened and delayed game.

Faith Christian (0-4) at Merritt Island Christian (1-2)


Last week: The Lions lost to International Community, 33-6. MIC last played on Sept. 11, losing to Christ’s Church, 26-13.

Game note: The Cougars have been idled the last two weeks by a cancellation and then weather.

Saturday’s game

Cocoa (4-1) at St. Edward (4-1)

2, Lakewood, Ohio

Last week: The Tigers beat Viera, 49-42. St. Edward defeated Bergen Catholic (N.J.), 31-28.

Game note: Cocoa beat Bergen in 2012, 24-14. The Eagles are No. 24 in the USA Today Super 25. Next week, St. Edward hosts Mainland of Daytona Beach.
