Criticism of the premier’s policies, especially on social media, descends into personal attacks and needless censure

HYDERABAD: As citizens, we have several misgivings as to how Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is handling a number of issues. This does not mean that criticism of his policies, especially on social media, descends into personal attacks and needless censure, devoid of any dignity. Such criticism abases not only him, but also belittles the dignity of the entire nation. The ongoing visit of the prime minister to attend the United Nations General Assembly session led to much criticism from his own country’s citizens. Logging on to social media, one finds pictures of the prime minister sitting with the Arab leadership accompanied by many a virulent comments on the manner of his sitting. Frankly, this subject was something pointless for Pakistanis to make unnecessary assertions on. Furthermore, Mr Sharif’s meeting with Bill Gates carried infuriating, needless criticism.

Undoubtedly, the nation has the right to speak out, but we must not cross limits. After all, he is our prime minister and it is he who represents the whole Pakistani nation.
