GRIFFIN, Ga. — It’s a game of cross-town rivalry as the Griffin Bears take on the undefeated Spalding Jaguars in the #Team11 Game of the Week.
The Jaguars are already off to a memorable start, going 5-0 for the first time in the school’s history. Now, they’re searching for another feat. Spalding is hoping to beat the defending AAAA state champs for the first time ever. According to GHSF Daily, the Bears have won the previous seven meetings by an average score of 42-5.
However, Griffin is off to its worst start in a decade. The Bears had a 22-game win streak snapped last Friday when the Bears fell to Jonesboro 13-7. Griffin was able to obtain an early lead after RB Isaiah Spruill ran in a 2-yard TD on their first drive. But the offense was unable to score again, totaling only 59 yards in the first half. QB Tylan Mortain completed a little over half his passes (16-for-30) and passed for 124 yards.
The Jaguars have an impressive offense, averaging 360.6 yards per game. QB Naricuss Driver Jr. is 40-for-68 for 578 passing yards, has rushed for 328 yards on 68 carries, and has three touchdowns. Another explosive addition to this offense is RB Askia Moses who so far has 8 touchdowns on 49 carries and has rushed nearly 350 yards. On top of offense, the Jags’ defense has only allowed 7.2 points per game.
Will Spalding reach another milestone on home turf? Or will Griffin continue their dominance? You can watch pre-game coverage at 5/6pm on 11Alive, and a full game story at 10:30 p.m. on The ATL (usually channel 13 or 36).
