MINDEN – The Minden Crimson Tide defense set the tone early and often as they opened up district play in 1-4A with a convincing win over Fair Park, 35-8, at The Pit on Friday night.
After sputtering on its opening possession, Minden’s defense forced the first turnover of the game recovering Cedric Pehl’s fumble at the Minden 36. On the next play, Minden’s L’Jarius Sneed, in his first game back from injury, rushed 64 yards for the touchdown to give Minden a lead it would never surrender.
Fair Park’s offense never got on track in the first half, gaining only 35 total yards. In the second half, Minden extended its lead after forcing another Fair Park turnover at the Minden 45. Seven plays later, Sneed scored his second TD of the game, pushing the Minden lead to 21-0. Fair Park got on the board late in the third quarter on a 51-yard pass from Louis Smith to Robert Rochell. Smith’s 2-point conversion made it 21-8.
The Tide would counter with two touchdowns in the fourth with a 10-yard pass from Antonio Rivette to Tavarius Edwards and a 28-yard interception return for touchdown by Tychristopher Harris.
In his first game of the year, Minden’s L’Jarius Sneed had 154 total yards (94 yards rushing, 60 yards receiving) to lead the Minden offense. Robert Rochell had 72 yards receiving and a score in the loss for the Indians. Minden improves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in district. Fair Park falls to 2-2 and 0-1 in district.
