Wilbraham & Monson (Wilbraham , Mass.) forward Wenyen Gabriel gave Kentucky its third commit from the 2016 class Thursday when he announced live on ESPN.com that he’d picked the Wildcats over Duke.
“I felt a connection to all the coaches in my final five, but ultimately it came down to Duke and Kentucky,” Gabriel told ESPN.com. “And I just felt like I couldn’t go wrong either way.”
Gabriel visited Kentucky last weekend and hosted Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, associate head coach Jeff Capel and assistant coach Jon Scheyer Tuesday.
Gabriel, who is ranked No. 23 overall in the ESPN 100, had a dominant summer on the adidas Gauntlet with the Mass Rivals averaging 17.4 points and 8.6 rebounds a game.
“Kentucky made it clear that they had a plan for me personally and for helping me to take my game to the next level,” Gabriel told ESPN.com.
Gabriel joins Rangitoto College (New Zealand) center Tai Wynyard and Virginia Episcopal (Lynchburg, Va.) forward Sacha Killeya-Jones in Kentucky’s 2016 recruiting class thus far.
