Brevard has postponed Friday’s homecoming football game against Tuscola to Monday.
Blue Devils athletic director Mick Galloway sent this e-mail to local media:
With the current weather situation Brevard High will be postponing our homecoming football game tomorrow to Monday night at 7pm at Brevard High School.
Here is a capsule for the Western North Carolina Athletic Conference game:
TUSCOLA (4-1, 1-0) at BREVARD (2-3, 0-1)
Last week: Tuscola beat Smoky Mountain, 56-28; Brevard lost to Franklin, 35-13.
Last year: Tuscola beat Brevard, 35-32.
Notes: Tuscola coach Tommy Pursley’s view of his team is two-fold. Pursley is fond of saying that the Mountaineers are good enough to beat everyone on their schedule and susceptible to a loss at any time, too. So far the odds have been in the favor of the Mountaineers and Zach Webster (595 passing yards, 213 rushing yards and nine combined touchdowns). Webster has yet to throw an interception. Caleb Ferguson (554 yards, nine touchdowns), Roman Jenkins (356 yards, four touchdowns) and Brent Turner (263 yards, three touchdowns) have all rushed for more than 250 yards. Additionally, Ferguson has made a team-high eight catches for 173 yards and one touchdown. Tuscola is 4-1 for the second time in three years with a defense that feeds off of Taylor Austin (11.6 tackles per game), Webster (11.0), Joe Napert (9.8), Grayson Perkins (8.0), Jeremy Jacobs (8.0), Eli Trantham (7.4), Tregg Rice (6.6) and Nick Owens (6.5). Brevard will counter Monday with offensive playmakers like Tanner Ellenberger (668 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions), Tanner Pettit (341 rushing yards, 177 receiving yards and four combined touchdowns) and Nick Cabe (15 receptions for 198 yards and five touchdowns). Pettit not only leads the Blue Devils in rushing and receiving but secures a team-high 12.6 tackles a game, followed by Kyle Williams (10.6), Earon Wilkes (7.6) and Hamilton Lopez (4.8).
Pick: Tuscola by 7.
